Which links are commercial

Product links — the "Check current price" buttons on review pages, and product links inside articles — are affiliate links. On pages that carry product picks, a short affiliate disclosure appears directly above the picks, so you can see the disclosure and the links at the same time. Outbound commercial links on this site are marked with rel="nofollow sponsored", which is the machine-readable version of this disclosure. Internal navigation links and links to our own sources are not commercial.

External links pass through a redirect page on this site before leaving, so you can see where a link is going before you land there.

What a commission does not buy

• It does not buy a place on a page. Products are selected on published specifications and owner-reported durability first.
• It does not buy a conclusion. Where a pick has real drawbacks, the drawbacks are printed next to it.
• It does not buy silence. If a category's best options all pay no commission, we say so.
• It does not change the price you pay.

Which programmes we work with

We work with affiliate networks and with brands directly. Commission rates vary by programme and by category, and they are not published on this site — not because they are secret, but because a rate is a commercial arrangement between us and a partner, and showing it invites the reader to weigh a number that should not affect a recommendation.

If a page has no commercial links

Some pages here carry no affiliate links at all — most of the buying guides, for instance. They exist because the category needs explaining, not because there is something to sell on them.
